Fashion Face-Off: Kim vs. Selena vs. Amy

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 08.25 0 komentar

It doesn't rhyme with any other words, but how does orange stack up against other colors when it comes to celebrity fashion?
That's the question at the center of this THG Face-Off, as Kim Kardashian goes up against Selena Gomez and Amy Adams. All three recently attended public events in similar shaded dresses and all three looks very pretty in them.
But, let's face it, there can only be one winner. Compare, contrast and vote below.

Billy Ray Cyrus Expresses Regret, Love for Miley

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 08.21 0 komentar
Billy Ray Cyrus appeared on Good Morning America yesterday and somehow resisted the urge to throw a chair through a window following his sit-down with Robin Roberts.
After coming across as loonier than Tila Tequila in an earlier interview with GQ, we need to give Billy Ray props for standing up and taking responsibility this time around.

Referring to his messy marriage (now on the mend), Billy Ray says he was "surrounded in darkness" when he claimed Satan was attacking his family. Now, after re-assessing his diatribe, Billy Ray explained his point in clearer terms:

"Fame can be a dangerous animal... And it's a delicate thing... [But] I love Hannah Montana. I love Disney. I wouldn't change anything."

While daughter Miley has run into a few scandals over the past year or so - most notably a bong-smoking incident around her 18th birthday - Billy Ray doesn't foresee the sort of trouble ahead at which he had previously hinted.

"Miley has a great heart," he said. "She's very intelligent. She will make good choices and she knows right from wrong."

Does he have any regrets? Yes. Billy Ray admits he didn't always approach fatherhood properly.

"I was a great playmate... for teaching [my children] how to camp and build fires and ride motorcycles and four-wheelers, and horses, and all those fun kind of things... As far as sitting down and doing algebra and science, the homework, I wasn't very good at that. So I look back on it and think, 'You know what? Maybe, no doubt, I could have been a better dad.'"

In the end, when it comes to Miley, the country singer makes it clear: he loves her "more than life itself."

New Music: Britney Spears Premieres “Hold It Against Me” A Day Early

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 08.12 0 komentar
A day earlier than expected, Britney Spears is back with her highly anticipated new single, “Hold It Against.”

Crafted by pop staples Max Martin and Dr. Luke, the team behind hits for other pop darlings like Ke$ha and Katy Perry, the track is, well, very Max Martin and Dr. Luke-y. You’d probably be able to guess who was behind the song even if it wasn’t public knowledge. But the good news is the team clearly wanted to offer Britney something that would stand out at least a smidgen more from the rest of their work. Enter the track’s throbbing bassline, gritty break-down switch, and angelic chorus.

Lyrically, Britney isn’t breaking new ground in the least. It’s all about wanting to take flirtation in the club to a sexier place a.k.a. the classic dance-pop soup. But it works well together. Take a super lame pick up line (“if I said I want your body, would you hold it against me?”), add the pulsating beat, and sprinkle in Britney’s charm (and big name) and you have a recipe for a dancefloor-scorcher and a definite future chart-topper.

New Music: Glee Debuts Original Songs “Get It Right” And “Loser Like Me”

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 08.05 0 komentar
The cast of Glee will debut original music for the very first time ever on their new album, Glee: The Music, Volume 5. Today, those two songs are available to listen to (and judge).

Lea Michele‘s soaring voice drives the piano-drenched ballad “Get It Right.” “What can you do when your good isn’t good enough and all that you touch tumbles down/’Cause my best intentions keep making a mess of things/I just want to fix it somehow/But how many times will it take, oh, how many times will it take for me to get it right,” she sings on the chorus. The song is melodrama, just like Michele’s character Rachel Berry.

The ensemble cut, “Loser Like Me,” is a zippier offering, penned by pop mastermind Max Martin. The song is, well, very Max Martin-y. In other words, it’s upbeat and catchy as all hell. The track encompasses everything Glee is about: being “losers” but accepting it and making it cool. The hardships and bullying they suffer? It’s only temporary. In fact, they’re betting on getting the last laugh with their future success. “I’m not thinking ’bout you haters/’Cause, hey, I could be a superstar/I’ll see you when you wash my car.”

Glee: The Music, Volume 5 is in stores March 8. Listen to the two new songs below:

Flowers on the Bus

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 07.45 0 komentar

We were a very motley crowd of people who took the bus every day that summer 33 years ago. During the early morning ride from the suburb, we sat drowsily with our collars up to our ears, a cheerless and taciturn bunch.
One of the passengers was a small grey man who took the bus to the centre for senior citizens every morning. He walked with a stoop and a sad look on his face when he, with some difficulty, boarded the bus and sat down alone behind the driver. No one ever paid very much attention to him.
Then one July morning he said good morning to the driver and smiled short-sightedly down through the bus before he sat down. The driver nodded guardedly. The rest of us were silent.
The next day, the old man boarded the bus energetically, smiled and said in a loud voice: "And a very good morning to you all!" Some of us looked up, amazed, and murmured "Good morning," in reply.
The following weeks we were more alert. Our friend was now dressed in a nice old suit and a wide out-of-date tie. The thin hair had been carefully combed. He said good morning to us every day and we gradually began to nod and talk to each other.
One morning he had a bunch of wild flowers in his hand. They were already dangling a little because of the heat. The driver turned around smilingly and asked: "Have you got yourself a girlfriend, Charlie?" We never got to know if his name really was "Charlie", but he nodded shyly and said yes.
The other passengers whistled and clapped at him. Charlie bowed and waved the flowers before he sat down on his seat.
Every morning after that Charlie always brought a flower. Some of the regular passengers began bringing him flowers for his bouquet, gently nudged him and said shyly: "Here." Everyone smiled. The men started to jest about it, talk to each other, and share the newspaper.
The summer went by, and autumn was closing in, when one morning Charlie wasn't waiting at his usual stop. When he wasn't there the next day and the day after that, we started wondering if he was sick or -- hopefully -- on holiday somewhere.
When we came nearer to the centre for senior citizens, one of the passengers asked the driver to wait. We all held our breaths when she went to the door.
Yes, the staff said, they knew who we were talking about. The elderly gentleman was fine, but he hadn't been coming to the centre that week. One of his very close friends had died at the weekend. They expected him back on Monday. How silent we were the rest of the way to work.
The next Monday Charlie was waiting at the stop, stooping a bit more, a little bit more grey, and without a tie. He seemed to have shrinked again. Inside the bus was a silence akin to that in a church. Even though no one had talked about it, all those of us, who he had made such an impression on that summer, sat with our eyes filled with tears and a bunch of wild flowers in our hands.

A Girl in CD Store

There was once a guy who suffered from cancer... a cancer that can't be treated. He was 18 years old and he could die anytime. All his life, he was stuck in his house being taken cared by his mother. He never went outside but he was sick of staying home and wanted to go out for once. So he asked his mother and she gave him permission.
He walked down his block and found a lot of stores. He passed a CD store and looked through the front door for a second as he walked. He stopped and went back to look into the store. He saw a young girl about his age and he knew it was love at first sight. He opened the door and walked in, not looking at anything else but her. He walked closer and closer until he was finally at the front desk where she sat.
She looked up and asked, "Can I help you?"
She smiled and he thought it was the most beautiful smile he has ever seen before and wanted to kiss her right there.
He said, "Uh... Yeah... Umm... I would like to buy a CD."
He picked one out and gave her money for it.
"Would you like me to wrap it for you?" she asked, smiling her cute smile again.
He nodded and she went to the back.
She came back with the wrapped CD and gave it to him. He took it and walked out of the store. He went home and from then on, he went to that store everyday and bought a CD, and she wrapped it for him. He took the CD home and put it in his closet. He was still too shy to ask her out and he really wanted to but he couldn't. His mother found out about this and told him to just ask her.
So the next day, he took all his courage and went to the store. He bought a CD like he did everyday and once again she went to the back of the store and came back with it wrapped. He took it and when she wasn't looking, he left his phone number on the desk and ran out...
!!!RRRRRING!!!
The mother picked up the phone and said, "Hello?"
It was the girl!!! She asked for the boy and the mother started to cry and said, "You don't know? He passed away yesterday..."
The line was quiet except for the cries of the boy's mother. Later in the day. The mother went into the boy's room because she wanted to remember him. She thought she would start by looking at his clothes. So she opened the closet. She was face to face with piles and piles and piles of unopened CDs. She was surprised to find all those CDs and she picked one up and sat down on the bed and she started to open one.
Inside, there was a CD and as she took it out of the wrapper, out fell a piece of paper. The mother picked it up and started to read it.
It said: Hi... I think U R really cute. Do u wanna go out with me? Love, Jacelyn
The mother opened another CD...
Again there was a piece of paper. It said: Hi... I think U R really cute. Do u wanna go out with me? Love, Jacelyn

A Clever Dog

A butcher watching over his shop is really surprised when he saw a dog coming inside the shop. He shoos him away. But later, the dog is back again.
So, he goes over to the dog and notices he has a note in his mouth. He takes the note and it reads "Can I have 12 sausages and a leg of lamb, please. The dog has money in his mouth, as well."
The butcher looks inside and, lo and behold, there is a ten dollar Note there. So he takes the money and puts the sausages and lamb in a bag, placing it in the dog's mouth. The butcher is so impressed, and since it's about closing time, he decides to shut up shop and follow the dog.
So off he goes. The dog is walking down the street when he comes To a level crossing.
The dog puts down the bag, jumps up and presses the button. Then he waits patiently, bag in mouth, for the lights to turn. They do, and he walks across the road, with the butcher following him all the way.
The dog then comes to a bus stop, and starts looking at the timetable.
The butcher is in awe at this stage. The dog checks out the times, and then sits on one of the seats provided. Along comes a bus. The dog walks around to the front, looks at the number, and goes back to his seat.
Another bus comes. Again the dog goes and looks at the number, notices it's the right bus, and climbs on. The butcher, by now, open-mouthed, follows him onto the bus.
The bus travels through the town and out into the suburbs, the dog Looking at the scenery. Eventually he gets up, and moves to the front of the bus. He stands on 2 back paws and pushes the button to stop the bus. Then he gets off, his groceries still in his mouth.
Well, dog and butcher are walking along the road, and then the dog turns into a house. He walks up the path, and drops the groceries on the step.
Then he walks back down the path, takes a big run, and throws himself against the door. He goes back down the path, runs up to the door and again, it throws himself against it. There's no answer at the house, so the dog goes back down the path, jumps up on a narrow wall, and walks along the perimeter of the garden. He gets to the window, and beats his head against it several times, walks back, jumps off, and waits at the door.
The butcher watches as a big guy opens the door, and starts abusing the dog, kicking him and punching him, and swearing at him.
The butcher runs up, and stops the guy. "What in heaven's name are You doing? The dog is a genius. He could be on TV, for the life of me!" to which the guy responds: "You call this clever? This is the second time this week that this stupid dog's forgotten his key."
Reflection:
Looks like some, people will never be satisfied with what they've got.

When it comes to the work place, Employers do not know how to appreciate their people who have served them loyally through the years. I've seen companies lose good people for the simple fact their leaders failed to show appreciation. Employers with big egos enjoy the fact that they have more power and authority than others. They show, in the way they give orders and directions, that they think they are superior. They get a kick out of displaying this superiority. People who do this are fools, and everyone but them knows it. They are never satisfied because they could not be satisfied even if their people perform well.
They don't listen to the opinion and ideas of their subordinates.
Why? Because of their stupid pride and insecurity.
People of this kind will never be satisfied. Why? Because they are so busy wrapped up in themselves and, fact is, the self can never be satisfied. Happy and productive people are always those who are "others-centered" rather than "self- centered." The greatest idea of leadership is not someone who throws his weight around. Rather, he is a servant. As Bible would say, "He who wish to be a leader should first be a servant."
His joy is derived from delivering a job that others benefit from his contribution. Aim for service and success will follow.

As Brave as Her

This morning I was eating breakfast and reading an article about the tragedy in Littleton, CO. I cried when I read about one certain brave girl.

The article said that the perpetrators were taunting some of the kids by asking them if they believed in God. One brave girl stood up and said "I believe in Jesus!". She was immediately gunned down in cold blood for her faith!

It really hit me hard and I cried as I wondered if I could have been that brave! I'm not sure why but I sat down and wrote a poem because of what this girl did and for what courage and character she displayed.
I hope you like it and would like to have this passed on to everyone that you can think of. Encourage them to do the same. I just think it would be a great tribute to such a wonderful girl, and brave Christian martyr!

As Brave as Her? (Cassie Bernall)
Would I have been as brave as her,
When her young life was taken in a blur?
"I believe in Jesus" was her cry,
as wicked bullets began to fly.

Would I have been as brave as her,
When such evil stared her in the face?
Could I have boldly claimed my faith,
And died so bravely in His Grace?

Could I be as brave as her today?
Express my faith; what will I say?
Although I'm not at death's door,
Can I take His message and let it soar?

Could you be as brave as her today?
Stand against evil, come what may?
Her precious life has fleeting past,
Do something for her that will forever last

Test Of Faith

This is a true story told by one of the first missionaries to enter Russia:
In Russia before the Berlin Wall came down and freedom to worship freely was against the law, many Christians were forced to get together in secret to worship the Lord. One group of Christians were gathered together in a simple house studying the Bible when suddenly the door was thrown open violently and three Russian soldiers burst in with rifles. One of the soldiers bellowed out that anyone who wasn't a Christian could leave immediately but anyone who had come to worship God should stay.

After a moment of silence many of the people filed out of the house leaving a few people behind. One of the soldiers closed the door behind them and locked it, then the soldiers all put down the rifles and explained to the remaining few that they also were Christians but they only wanted to worship with true believers. Could you pass such a test of your faith?

Lauren Conrad Books It

That Pulitzer Prize is as good as hers.
After proving her mastery of the spoken word as the protagonist of The Hills, Lauren Conrad is staking her claim on the written word, signing a three-book deal with HarperCollins based on her Hollywood experiences—presumably, the minutiae not already chronicled on TV.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the book series, which follows an average teen who becomes a reality star, could potentially be developed as a film or (uh, another) TV project.

While the books will be based on Conrad's gal-about-town shenanigans, the young adult tomes will officially be classified as fiction, with the first in the series set for release in the summer of 2009.

"It's definitely influenced by my own life," the reality star turned fashion designer turned Speidi nemesis turned author told People.
"The books are about a girl who moves to L.A. and stars in a reality show, so obviously there are some similarities."

She has also assured her nearest and dearest that she won't be using the books to kiss, tell or otherwise take swipes at those in her circle.

"I'm not trying to do a fictional story based on all my friends in my real life because their stories aren't really mine to tell," she said, adding that she has already completed the outline for the first book. "Some of the characters may symbolize people in my life, but it is in no way calling anyone out."

Not that her friends are overly concerned with the 22-year-old's sense of loyalty.
"I've told my best friends and they have all been really supportive. Nobody was worried."

China's Baidu to shut e-commerce platform

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 07.04 0 komentar
SHANGHAI (Reuters) – Baidu Inc, China's largest search engine, will shut its online e-commerce store, Youa, and migrate its users to other platforms, it said on Thursday.
The shutdown will take effect in May and Youa's existing merchants will be migrated to Rakuten China and Yaodian100, Baidu said in a statement.

"This should not be seen as Baidu withdrawing from the e-commerce scene. In fact, we are in research and development on a new e-commerce platform product which will suit users better," a Baidu spokeswoman said.

The closure of Youa, which Baidu had set up to rival Alibaba's popular online shopping site, Taobao, cements Taobao's position as the leading e-commerce player in China.

Youa failed to gain traction with the majority of online users who preferred to use Taobao to buy and sell goods online. Based on gross merchandise value, Taobao commands more than 70 percent of China's e-commerce market.

China is the world's largest internet market with more than 450 million users. Web commerce in China has surged in recent years as buyers in the world's second-biggest economy switch to the internet for better deals from more reliable suppliers and reasonable price.

Rakuten China is a joint venture between Baidu and Japan's largest online retailer, Rakuten Inc.

Google's citizen cartographers map out the world

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 06.54 0 komentar
SINGAPORE (AFP) – Google on Thursday revealed that an army of citizen cartographers is behind its widely used mapping service, helping the Internet search giant chart the world, including often inaccessible places.

Volunteers from various countries post updates on their neighbourhoods or travel to remote places to map the area before uploading their findings to Google Map Maker, the company said at a conference in Singapore.

Contributors can add new roads and landmarks or debate with neighbours about the names of streets on the virtual map, which is constantly updated with new information.

Google Map Maker allows people to add or edit features, such as roads, businesses, parks and schools, and give detailed information about the locations.
"You are now the mapping agency of the world, and many of the mapping agencies are recognising that fact," Google's geospatial technologist Ed Parsons said at the Google Geo Community Summit attended by contributors from different countries.
"The large, top-down approaches to making maps that traditionally the industry has followed for many thousands of years are changing very rapidly," he added.
"They now go from a bottom-up approach, where local experts, people like yourselves are making maps, they are updating the maps, because you are the experts in your local neighbourhoods."

Parsons said Google maps have been used extensively to help relief efforts during natural disasters such as in the recent earthquake and tsunami that struck northeastern Japan on March 11.

Indian retiree CNR Nair spends about two hours daily updating mapping information on India. He travels to different places, and even checks if the latitudes tally from the ones on Google Map Maker.

But mapping out his homeland has not been entirely smooth sailing for Nair. Working without government approval, he initially met resistance from the local police who threatened to arrest him.

"Google Maps should serve the community," he told AFP.
"During the Indian (Ocean) tsunami, we mapped all these tsunami affected areas so that in the future at least people should be aware to get (people) evacuated from the possible tsunami affected areas or flood areas."

Other volunteers have travelled from Moscow to Siberia by rail, filming the entire journey from the train window and uploading it onto Google Map Maker, the conference heard.

Japan disaster sparks social media innovation

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 06.51 0 komentar
TOKYO – As Japan grapples with an unprecedented triple disaster — earthquake, tsunami, nuclear crisis — the Web has spawned creativity and innovation online amid a collective desire to ease suffering.

Once the magnitude of the March 11 disaster became clear, the online world began asking, "How can we help?"

And for that, social media offered the ideal platform for good ideas to spread quickly, supplementing efforts launched by giants like Google and Facebook.

A British teacher living in Abiko city, just east of Tokyo, is leading a volunteer team of bloggers, writers and editors producing "Quakebook," a collection of reflections, essays and images of the earthquake that will be sold in the coming days as a digital publication. Proceeds from the project will go to the Japanese Red Cross, said the 40-year-old, who goes by the pseudonym "Our Man in Abiko."

The entirely Twitter-sourced project started with a single tweet exactly a week after the earthquake. Within an hour, he had received two submissions, which soon grew to the 87 that now comprise the book.

Quakebook involves some 200 people in Japan and abroad, and the group is in negotiations to sell the download on Amazon.com. It didn't take long for others to notice. Twitter itself has sent out a tweet about Quakebook, as has Yoko Ono. Best-selling novelist Barry Eisler wrote the foreword for the book. Organizers, including Our Man in Abiko, will hold a press conference at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan in Tokyo on Friday.

"I just thought I want to do something," he said in a telephone interview. "I felt completely helpless."

Another project, "World's 1000 Messages for Japan," is an effort to convey thoughts from around the globe. Writers can leave short notes on Facebook or through e-mail, which a group of volunteers then translate into Japanese. The translations are then posted on Twitter as well as the group's website.

"The news of the earthquake, tsunami, and meltdown in Japan has mostly been horrifying. But it has also served as a reminder of the strength and resolve that comes out of Japanese culture," said one recent message on the project's Facebook page.

The calamitous events that transfixed people worldwide led to a jump in traffic among social networking sites — typical after recent major disasters elsewhere.
In the immediate aftermath of the disaster that likely killed more than 18,000 people, phone and cellular networks were either down or overwhelmed with traffic.
So people turned to the Internet to track down friends and family, and connect with those who saw the disaster unfold firsthand. In Tokyo, which suffered minimal damage, commuters wanted to know if their trains were running, and whether their neighborhoods would be subject to rolling electricity blackouts due to damage to nuclear and conventional power plants.

Figures released this week show that millions flocked to sites like Twitter following the earthquake and tsunami. Its audience grew by a third to 7.5 million users during March 7-13 compared with the previous week, according to the Nielsen NetRatings Japan.

Video streaming provider Ustream and Japanese video sharing platform Nico Nico Douga also saw viewership climb. Ustream's audience more than doubled to 1.4 million, driven largely by public broadcaster NHK's channel featuring live coverage online, the report said.

The numbers underscore the increasingly valuable role that social media, particularly Twitter, can play in the wake of natural disasters. The microblogging site helped drive fundraising after the earthquake in Haiti last year, and it served as a critical communication tool after the New Zealand earthquake in February.

Twitter was already a big hit in Japan, where more than three-quarters of the population is connected to the Internet. The earthquake convinced even more users of its value as a communication lifeline.

"Many people signed up for Twitter after the earthquake, and that's because they wanted to exchange information," said Nobuyuki Hayashi, a prominent Japanese tech journalist and consultant.

"Twitter played a great role in the first few days" after the quake, he said. He added, however, that the surge of activity also brought to light some of Twitter's shortcomings during disasters.

As helpful as Twitter was after the quake, it also helped propagate a number of unfounded rumors and fears. A post-quake fire at an oil refinery east of Tokyo led to a torrent of tweets that incorrectly claimed the blaze would result in toxic rain.
Some people moved to Facebook "because they can access more trusted information and engage in more topic-based conversation," Hayashi said.

That's something that concerns Web designer Qanta Shimizu as well. But he sees a greater good in embracing social media in times of crisis.
In 1995, when a massive earthquake devastated the western city of Kobe, the Internet was in its infancy and the mass media controlled the flow of information. National consciousness of the disaster shifted too quickly, Shimizu said, as the media moved on to new topics.

"Society has changed now, and through the Internet, I wanted to find a way to offer support indefinitely," he said.

Shimizu created a Twitter application to remind Internet users to do their part, however small. "Setsudener" — a play on the Japanese term for "save energy" — automatically darkens a user's profile picture from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., symbolizing the need to cut back on power consumption during peak demand.

Japanese Web developer Yusuke Wada created "Anpi Report" to gather and organize information posted on Twitter about missing individuals. Through Facebook and Twitter, he has found more than 200 volunteers to manually sift through tweets to enter into a database.

Anpi Report says it hopes to expand its service in the near future by linking its information with Google's "person finder" database for people who are either seeking information about a missing person or have information to provide about someone affected by the disaster.

For others, especially local governments and agencies, simply venturing onto social media has been a big step.

Mitaka city in western Tokyo decided to start a Twitter account after the earthquake. Announcements of the possible rolling blackouts led to a huge spike in traffic on the city's website that it could not handle, said spokesman Shinichi Akiyama.
One of the city's recent posts informed residents that The Tokyo Electric Power Co. had called off blackouts for Wednesday — an essential piece of information for businesses and households. The information is posted on the city's Website, but putting it out on Twitter enables the city to keep residents informed in real-time, Akiyama said.

"We're using social media a bit differently than what it was probably intended for, like having a conversation," he said. "But it has helped us realize that it's possible to use social media as a tool."

Mitaka's neighbors took note almost immediately. Nearby cities like Musashino and Koganei have also signed up for Twitter, as have numerous municipalities in the hardest-hit areas of northeast Japan.

Software update fixes MacBook Air-iTunes issue

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 06.46 0 komentar
Owners of last year’s MacBook Air models who’ve been running into problems with iTunes got some relief Wednesday in the form of an Apple software update. The catchily-named Mac OS X v10.6.7 Supplemental Update for 13” MacBook Air (Late 2010)—or “update” for short—tackles an issue where Apple’s ultra-thin laptop became unresponsive when using iTunes.

According to an Apple support forum discussion, the problem first cropped up after this month’s Mac OS X 10.6.7 update. iTunes would crash on launch after some 13-inch MacBook Air owners installed the updated operating system. (The problem didn’t affect all MacBook Air owners, according to Macworld Bugs & Fixes columnist Ted Landau, who uses a 13-inch MacBook Air and never ran into the issue.)

Apple recommends the 461KB update for anyone who’s got a 13-inch MacBook Air model from late 2010 that runs Mac OS X 10.6.7.

Italy is a beautiful country but is one of those countries which you probably have some questions and preconceptions, before your coming to this special country. A place of olive oil, pasta, wine, mafia and sunshine, roman ruins and renaissance palaces, Italy has a lot to give its tourists. Although some of these conceptions are amazing and interesting, it would be a shame if that was the only thing you come away with. Italy is certainly much more complex and stimulating than these concepts.

Italy is a country full of interesting things for the casual tourist and the educated tourist, it has deep Roman Catholic roots. The tourists can stay weeks in important tourist centers without reason to feel bored, but it is equally simple to get off the beaten track. In the north, next to the Alps and the landscapes of the Po river, many cultural gems and highly developed industrial cities fascinate. In this exciting country the people live the "la vita Italiana"

Rome apartments.

Lombardia is the capital of Milan, city of business organization and haute couture, the tourist can easily stay weeks without being bored. Bergamo is only an hour of distance and has an upper Old Town. On every corner you will observe something new. Venice and Verona are the most famous tourist attractions in the north-east of Italy, maybe you can think about romantic love affairs here.

The people can discover easily the beautiful landscapes of Italy, Verona province may be the more fascinating. Many persons say that the north-west of Italy is a paradise for every culinary interested traveler. For the people who adore the wine, Piemonte is related with Barolo and Barbaresco, the most famous wines made out of the Nebbiolo grape. Turin is the capital of Piemonte, this city provides more than just a starting point to visit these wine regions. Lots of tourist attractions like museums, modern art, music and book fairs make of this city, one of the notable Italian cities concerning cultural life. At the same time it is a booming industrial and multimedia city.

One of the most popular areas in Italy is Tuscany which is located in central Italy. Known for it's beautiful landscape and picturesque towns and villages including Florence, Lucca, Siena and Cortona. The Tuscan region is a popular vacation destination with many nice hotels. However, you can’t talk about Italy without mentioning the beautiful capital. Selena Gomez Admits to Ellen That Justin Bieber Is More Than Just a "Little Brother"

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 06.18 0 komentar
Selena Gomez got a case of the giggles during her Tuesday appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, when Ellen pressed the 18-year-old singer-actress for details about her rumored relationship with 17-year-old teen idol Justin Bieber.
"I feel like we're close, we're friends... You'd never hurt me? You'd never lie to me?" DeGeneres quipped.
"I would never, ever," Gomez said sincerely.
"Well, the last time you were here -- I just wanna remind you -- we were talking about Justin. And the last time you were here, this is what you said," the daytime host said as she rolled a clip of Gomez's September 2010 appearance on the show.
Only seven months ago, Gomez had remained poised when Ellen asked her about the Biebs, claiming there was nothing romantic going on. "He's little! I mean, he's like my little brother!" Gomez insisted then.
After viewing the flashback clip, a mortified Gomez hid her face before screaming, "Don't take me to jail!" When DeGeneres asked what Gomez had to say for herself now, all she could muster was, "I don't know. I don't know."
DeGeneres then joked that Gomez and Bieber "made me a fool" when they took their relationship public at this year's Vanity Fair Oscar party.
"No, I didn't!" Gomez swore. "He's sweet."
"He's sweet as can be," DeGeneres agreed. "But he's not like your little brother, is he?"
"No," Gomez confessed. "(But) I didn't lie to you, I didn't know!”
"But little brother is not someone you wanna date?" DeGeneres asked.
"Well, no," Gomez admitted. "That would be wrong... and weird."
DeGeneres then presented her flustered guest with a gift -- a pillow with Bieber's face on it -- "because I know you’re away from Justin, and I don’t want you to miss him too much!" Ellen joked. Watch for yourself below.

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 06.13 0 komentar
Willow Smith has revealed that she was pranked by Justin Bieber and her brother Jaden while on stage in Manchester last night.

The 10-year-old 'Whip My Hair' singer was singing her debut hit when Bieber and Jaden stormed the stage with some friends. According to reports Bieber showed off his hair-whipping abilities before allowing her to finish the set.

We wonder what little Willow has up her sleeve as she wrote on her Facebook page: "My big brother's Justin and Jaden pranked me on stage tonight...#payback!!!"
While Justin Bieber commented on his Facebook page: "MANCHESTER was INCREDIBLE tonight...one of my favourite shows ever!! (sic) Pranked Willow during WhipMyHair and then got crazy during the show. Loved the energy. just got back to the hotel and still Hyped. Thank you. Let's do it again tomorrow! #myworldtour."
How do you think Willow should get Bieber back?

iPad With Camera Coming Soon

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 06.04 0 komentar
Today’s ridiculous Apple rumor comes from Apple Insider. The claim? That a new FaceTime-equipped iPad will be in stores in time for the holiday season, just six months after the original launch. Bull.

That there will be an iPad with a front-facing camera for FaceTime videoconferencing is certain, and it will probably be there in version 2. But the idea that Apple would bring out a new model so soon after the first one is nonsensical in many ways. First, Apple can barely make enough iPads to keep up with demand. Only in the last few weeks have order-times dropped to a reasonable 24 hours, and with the iPad’s Chinese launch coming soon, it seems that Apple will continue to sell as many iPads as it can make. Introducing a new model so soon would be pointless.

Second, Apple runs its portable devices on a yearly update schedule. Every summer sees a new iPhone, every September a new iPod lineup. And while there is no precedent yet for the iPad, its safe to assume that it, too, will receive yearly updates. One year is long enough that early adopters like me will be happy to buy every new model, and long enough not to piss off customers who feel that their toy has be obsoleted too soon. Remember the fuss about the iPhone price-drop? Imagine what would happen if a new iPad came out in a month or so.

Apple Insider’s source is “a person with proven knowledge of Apple’s future product plans” and says that:

A version of the tablet device with a built-in video camera and support for the new FaceTime video conferencing standard has already progressed to the advanced testing stages.

He also said that “there was an ambitious push inside Apple to verify the refresh for a possible launch ahead of this year’s holiday shopping season.”

Which brings me to a third point. Why rush an update into stores with just one tiny, incremental hardware change? It seems very unlikely that there will be a Retina Display in a new iPad so soon after launch. After all, if the prices of such a big, hi-res screen were already cheap enough to keep to the iPad’s $500 price-point, wouldn’t Apple have put them in there already? The same goes for an SD-card-slot, which I’m guessing will be in iPad 2.0. The price of the rest of the hardware will have to drop before these are added, and six-months into a product cycle seems to soon.

I say this rumor is nothing but a rumor. If you want a new camera-toting iPad, wait until April.

Slightly more credible is Engadget’s report that Target may begin selling iPads on October 3. The gadget blog has a screenshot of a Target point-of-sale device that purportedly shows the inventory information for the iPad.

Rolling Stone - Taylor Swift

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 05.35 0 komentar
By Rob Sheffield (Rolling Stone Magazine)

People like to fixate on Taylor Swift's youth, as if to say, yeah, she's pretty good for her age. But that just begs a question: Where are all the older people who are supposedly making better pop records than Taylor Swift? There aren't any. In a mere four years, the 20-year-old Nashville firecracker has put her name on three dozen or so of the smartest songs released by anyone in pop, rock or country.
Swift's third album, Speak Now, is roughly twice as good as 2008's Fearless, which was roughly twice as good as her 2006 debut. These 14 tunes chronicle the hopes and dreams of boy-crazy small-town Everygirls, and Swift wrote them all by herself. (She also co-produced Speak Now with Nathan Chapman, who oversaw Swift's first two albums.) Swift might be a clever Nashville pro who knows all the hitmaking tricks, but she's also a high-strung, hyper-romantic gal with a melodramatic streak the size of the Atchafalaya Swamp. So she's in a class by herself when it comes to turning all that romantic turmoil into great songs. At this point, she's like the new Morrissey, except with even more eyeliner.
Swift takes a step into adulthood with Speak Now — she clearly aspires to the divorced-mom market where country stars do most of their business, slipping more grown-up details into her love stories. It's tame by country-radio standards, but it's still weird to hear T-Sweezy sing lines like "There's a drawer of my things at your place." Sometimes you can even tell what chick flicks Swift has been watching from the song titles: "Dear John," "The Story of Us," "Enchanted."
In uptempo tunes like "Mine" and "Sparks Fly," or ballads like "Back to December" and "Enchanted," Swift's voice is unaffected enough to mask how masterful she has become as a singer; she lowers her voice for the payoff lines in the classic mode of a shy girl trying to talk tough. Check the way she tosses off the "You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter" part in "Mine." Anyone else would have built the whole song around that, yet for Swift it's just another brilliant throwaway detail. There's a minimum of country schmaltz on Speak Now — Swift likes her tempos fast and her choruses rock-size. In "Enchanted," she even cops the Prince trick of duetting with her own filtered voice.

As for the boys she tangles with on Speak Now, they're her usual type. "You're an expert at sorry/And keeping lines blurry/And never impressed/By me acing your tests" — get used to that guy, Taylor, you'll be meeting a lot of him. Her advice to these dudes for holding on to her? "Just keep on keeping your eyes on me," she sings in "Sparks Fly." And yet we can already tell this guy's going to be long forgotten by the next song.
Speak Now peaks with "Long Live," a ridiculously over-the-top prom anthem with all the epic girl-group swoon of the Ronettes or the Shirelles, plus a guitar hook from Def Leppard's "Hysteria." Swift belts about how getting crowned king and queen is the most excellent event that could ever happen. It's the sort of prom song that could only come from an artist who chose to spend her high school years on a tour bus. Yet when Swift sings it, damn if you don't believe every word.

Paul

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 22.58 0 komentar
With Kevin Smith apparently retiring from directing soon, there's opportunity afoot for somebody new to start making R-rated comedies full of Star Wars conversations and pot smoking. Enter, inevitably, Comic-Con faves Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, playing Comic-Con attendees who run into a foul-mouthed-yet-sweet-natured alien (voice of Seth Rogen).
Like everything they do, it's an agreeable comedy that is likely to be overinflated to masterpiece status by fanboys.
The Bigger Picture: Pegg and Frost generally work with director Edgar Wright, but just as he branched out to do Scott Pilgrim Versus the World, so too have they, with Greg Mottola (Superbad) taking the reins on their screenplay this time around.
Still, this isn't a big departure. The duo came to geek-fame based on the Brit-com Spaced, which gained a cult following stateside largely thanks to the fact that it constantly dropped humorous references to American pop-culture. The subsequent movies Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz similarly riffed on the American zombie and action genres, transposing them to uniquely British settings for amusing (if overrated) effect.
Paul plays on their established personas and banter, with the guys playing, respectively, an aspiring English sci-fi novelist (Frost) and artist (Pegg) on a vacation at the San Diego Comic-Con, and a subsequent road-trip to various UFO-related sites.
Plans get sidetracked when they encounter Paul, your stereotypical "gray" alien, who has broken out of a government facility and is looking to get off-world. The twist here is that he's voiced by Seth Rogen and behaves more like a fratboy than a first contact, prone to swearing, smoking (tobacco and other things), mooning, and drinking beer. Aside from that, he's a pretty nice guy who has secretly been helping the government for years...but having learned all they can, the feds now want to dissect him.

The plot, such as it is, is your basic chase film, with incompetent agents played by Bill Hader, Jo Lo Truglio, and Jason Bateman hot on their trail.
What elevates this material to fanboy porn is the dialogue, which constantly appropriates signature lines from Star Wars, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters...even (huh?) Lorenzo's Oil.
There are visual and audio references as well, from a country bar where the band plays a bluegrass version of the Star Wars cantina theme, to some clever stunt-casting, and an oversized UFO that recalls the opening gag of Spaceballs. Thankfully, these aren't just pop-culture checklists for their own sake, a la Disaster Movie, but given their own spin. Fans will laugh knowingly, while newbies won't find any of it gets in the way of enjoying the story.
Pegg and Frost seem like fun guys to hang out with, which is their primary appeal...but they could stand to challenge themselves more. Outside of their comfort zone, they've shown greater promise as actors: Frost in Kinky Boots, and Pegg in Star Trek.
The 180—a Second Opinion: Considering the generally light tone, some sudden secondary-character deaths feel jarring and out of place.

The Diary of A Wimpy Kid

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 22.48 0 komentar
Rodrick (Devon Bostick) does indeed rule, but not over much: As bad-boy big bro to the eponymous Wimpy Kid, he's the only fully developed character in a thrown-together sea of stock types. Bostick potentially has a bright future ahead, but the franchise doesn't...creatively, anyway.

The Bigger Picture: In a children's book, you can get away with highly episodic structure, as each chapter can be its own story. Try to do that on film, and you get something that feels like an attempt at a PG Family Guy, all tangents and irrelevant asides and substantially less funny than the Griffin clan. Turning the black and white cartoons of Jeff Kinney's books into gaudy, artificially colored production design also feels like a mistake, but audiences know where they stand at this point. (Why do so many kiddie flicks use bright colors even when they feel unnatural and look like vomit?)
There's something almost resembling a plot here about a town talent contest, but it's mostly forgotten about until enough minutes have elapsed that we need an ending. Before then, the story is just a series of short events in which Rodrick and wimpy Greg (Zachary Gordon) go from enemies to unlikely buddies and back again—then back again...again. Chloe Moretz wisely opted not to return for this sequel.
For no particular reason, Greg decides to ignore his Indian stereotype friend (Karan Brar), engages in poorly staged slapstick that involves elderly ladies in a restroom and tries to make a funny YouTube video. Meanwhile, mom (Rachael Harris) tries to bribe Rodrick into hanging out with Greg more, and dad (Steve Zahn) acts like a dork. The soundtrack tries to keep us alert by constantly shifting from one generic pop tune to the next (including a bland cover of that end-credits calypso song from Beetlejuice), but it feels not unlike an annoyingly hyper morning person is irritatingly trying to nudge us awake from sweet stupor.
It's hard to blame the actors, as they are quite literally playing stick figures. Only Bostick seems to actually care about the material enough to transcend it, and we hope for his sake that this eventually becomes a mere footnote in what should be a long career.
The 180—a Second Opinion: As much as any sane person may hate to admit it, Rodrick's band, Lodid Diper, performs a final number called "Exploded Diaper" that is way catchier than expected.

Red Riding Hood

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 22.39 0 komentar
The original fairy tale, as you know, is about the little girl who takes an unfortunate trip to grandma's house. In Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke's version, the girl (Amanda Seyfried) isn't so little, and the nefarious wolf is the mythological "it" creature du jour, a werewolf. The result, however, is still the same: unfortunate.
The Bigger Picture: Valerie (Seyfried) lives in a little village at the edge of a dark forest. One day while out frolicking with her bad-boy love interest, Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), the town's wolf-bell tolls, alerting them that beast they've been fighting for generations has killed again. Of course, this angers the village's men and so they, including pretty boy Peter and nice guy Henry (Max Irons), whom Valerie's parents have arranged for her to marry, break out the booze and head out to kill the thing.
The love triangle is one of the first things to fail here. When you find yourself rooting for one of the guys (hint, it's the pretty one) to get eaten by the wolf, it's safe to say that the shallow attempt at portraying "true love" isn't working.
The men soon return with a wolf's head on a stake, dancing around like merry fools. Enter Father Solomon (Gary Oldman), professional wolf catcher and nutbag. Solomon warns the village that their wolf is still on the prowl, and that it's not just some overgrown dog, that it's actually a werewolf! Who, by day, takes on a human form. And coincidentally, because it's a special three-day blood-moon, anyone who is bitten during this period shall, too, turn into a killer werewolf.
This news sends the townspeople into a frenzy and everyone is suddenly suspect. Paranoia and the mistrust of friends and neighbors are themes ripe with potential (Scream, anyone?). Unfortunately, Hardwicke misses the opportunity to deliver all but the expected here.
The audience doesn't get the chance to fully play along with the villagers in trying to figure out who the wolf is. True, we are given a few shots at questioning some motivations, but the filmmakers would rather have us watch the wolf show up and put on a show, using fancy effects, than see nuanced characters being developed.
The tale of the big bad wolf waiting at granny's has been modified enough times that unlike, say, Titanic, we can't automatically assume to know what happens at the end. And as it turns out, finding and conquering the wolf is actually an evenly paced, though silly, adventure.

Mars Needs Mom

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 22.34 0 komentar
Adapted from a children's book by Bloom County artist Berkeley Breathed, Mars Needs Moms is visually inventive and occasionally emotionally potent, but feels overly padded in its attempt to stretch such a short story to feature length.

The Bigger Picture: Following a thorough, broccoli-related scolding, young Milo (voiced by Seth Dursky, motion-captured by Seth Green) loudly opines that life would be better if he didn't have a mom at all.
Little does he expect invaders from Mars to come and grant his wish! But before long, he's hitching a ride on the rocketship of malevolent mom-nappers, en route to the red planet, where her brain patterns will be transferred to disposable robot nannies.
Mars has gender issues to the extreme: the males, who are confined to lower levels of the planet, like to dance around mountains of trash, and vaguely resemble the kind of crowd you might see at a poetry slam, but with even more body hair. The women, meanwhile, who look kind of like anime caricatures of Cameron Diaz, run around shiny corridors wielding weapons.
With the aid of the planet's only human resident, an overweight man-child named Gribble (Dan Fogler), Milo must rescue his mother before her mind is wiped. This will involve a lot of precarious maneuvering around massive chasms, and discovering just how it came to be that the Martians lost the mothering instinct.
Fans of Breathed's artwork may be disappointed that his drawing style is nowhere in evidence; the production design owes more to Star Wars and Wall-E, while one of the subplots draws heavily on Joe Dante's Explorers. But there's undeniable heart—the potential despair over losing mom (Joan Cusack) and her love weighs heavily about the proceedings, and may be too intense for younger viewers.
And there's something both quaint and heartening about the notion that '60s hippie-style love (one Martian girl becomes inspired by old transmissions of a flower-power TV sitcom broadcast from Earth) will ultimately triumph over disposable technology. Those who fought the culture war in the other direction may disagree.
The 3-D effects are effective, specifically enhancing action sequences that rely upon the viewer's vertigo for their tension. Out-takes of the actors in mo-cap suits that run over the end credits are almost as enjoyable.
Still, even at the alleged 88-minute run time, the material runs thin, with characters frequently over-explaining just to make the story a little longer. It's still plenty of fun, but would have been an outstanding short.
The 180—a Second Opinion: For a family film, the hint of romance between Gribble and a female Martian is just a little too creepy in its implications.

Love is... when you've had a huge fight but then decide to put aside your egos, hold hands and say, "I Love You"

Italy Travel Guide

Diposting oleh grumpycrumpy di 06.34 0 komentar
Italy is a beautiful country but is one of those countries which you probably have some questions and preconceptions, before your coming to this special country. A place of olive oil, pasta, wine, mafia and sunshine, roman ruins and renaissance palaces, Italy has a lot to give its tourists. Although some of these conceptions are amazing and interesting, it would be a shame if that was the only thing you come away with. Italy is certainly much more complex and stimulating than these concepts.

#myworldtour."

iPad With Camera Coming Soon
